The United States is not a neutral mediator in Russia’s war against Ukraine, and Washington continues to support Ukraine while maintaining pressure on Russia, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated during hearings in the House of Representatives.
Rubio said that the United States does not take a neutral position in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
According to him, Washington is acting from a clearly defined political position.
Assessment of the war and prospects for ending it
Rubio emphasized that the United States does not see a military path to ending the conflict. He said the war can only be stopped through diplomatic means, but this is hindered by the lack of willingness from the parties to compromise.
According to the Secretary of State, Washington continues to support any efforts aimed at establishing peace, as it believes that the war in Ukraine has no military solution.
US position on the parties to the conflict
Rubio also noted that the United States is not a neutral participant in the process.
He stressed that the US continues to supply weapons to Ukraine and maintains sanctions pressure on Russia.
At the same time, he clarified that the US does not supply weapons to Russia and does not impose sanctions on Ukraine, and all restrictive measures are directed exclusively against Moscow. Thus, Washington, according to him, has clearly taken a side.
Support programs for Ukraine
The Secretary of State also said that support for Ukraine continues within international mechanisms, including the PURL program.
He noted that these initiatives operate independently of other global events and remain part of US policy.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is open to any format of diplomatic efforts to end the war, including the possibility of direct talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. At the same time, he noted that US attention has recently shifted significantly toward other international conflicts.
