The United States wants to play a constructive role in ending the war in Ukraine, but the situation is currently moving in the opposite direction, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

"We've been clear that there's a role we can play in bringing that war to an end. We want to play a constructive role. We are obviously watching the trend lines there and seeing that's not the direction that it's headed right now," he said.

Rubio stressed that Washington is focused on ending the conflict. He also expressed regret over the large number of people killed in the war.

In addition, the US secretary of state emphasized that Ukraine's NATO membership "is not on the table" at the moment.

It was recently reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin called a proposal for a mutual halt to strikes between Ukraine and Russia "senseless."

In addition, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that Russia is not interested in taking part in genuine peace talks.

The media also reported that the Kremlin had received a warning from US intelligence. The warning reportedly said that the Russian economy was at risk of collapsing like the Soviet Union and that the situation on the front had reached a deadlock.
