Romania will continue to support Ukraine, which is fighting against Russia. The country can become a hub for sending Western troops to Ukraine, says the acting President of Romania Ilie Bolojan, reports Defense Romania.

“As for the support of Ukraine, during the consultations, we expressed our country's readiness to continue supporting this country, because it is not just support for the victim before the aggressor, which is a matter of principle, but, in fact, it is support for the security of our country,” he said.

Bolojan said that Romania could also be subject to aggression. “If such approaches of Russia continue in the future, and we know what history means in this part of the world, Ukraine can only be the first victim,” he said.

The acting Romanian president adds that it is too early to discuss sending troops to Ukraine, as there is no peace agreement. Besides, there is no parliamentary support for such a step. “We could become a transit hub for these troops, and make an analysis,” he said.

Romanian Senate President Ilie Bolojan officially assumed office as interim president on February 12, as Romanian President Klaus Iohannis resigned from his post on February 10 ahead of a plan by far-right opposition parliamentary parties to impeach him.
