Facial massage helps to improve skin condition and get rid of wrinkles. The guasha scraper and massage roller have become quite popular. It is worth knowing what is better and more effective for the skin, says cosmetologist Olha Pozdniakova.

What is known about the roller

A facial massage roller is most often made of jade or quartz. The main principle of the roller's operation is to stimulate blood supply in the skin tissues, namely the lymphatic drainage effect.

"A roller is your morning pick-me-up. It refreshes, relieves swelling, and quickly awakens the skin. It is light and easy to use," said the cosmetologist.

According to the expert, the roller is aimed at reducing swelling, improving blood and lymph circulation, and relaxing muscles.

It is perfect for beginners, it can also be used when cooled down, but be careful if you have skin problems

You can even massage with a roller every day if you use it together with a serum. But a full-fledged massage can be done 2-3 times a week.

What is the use of a guasha scraper

Guasha is an ultra-popular massage technique that has its roots in an ancient Chinese tradition. It helps relieve tension, reduce wrinkles, improve blood circulation, and tighten facial contours.

Using the scraper is like a meditation that helps you calm down.

The scraper helps to

  • get rid of wrinkles, ptosis, and other age-related changes;
  • give a lifting effect and lymphatic drainage.

A full massage with a scraper should last 20 minutes or more. It can also be used to work the entire body.

"Both tools are great, but the choice depends on what you want: instant lightness and lymphatic drainage or deep work on the skin and muscles," Pozdniakova said.

It's important to remember that you shouldn't use these tools at the same time on the same day to avoid overloading the skin. The skin needs time to rest, regenerate, and produce collagen and elastin using its own resources.
