Robotic dog completed its first underwater tests
Polish company MAB Robotics showcased a new capability of its robotic dog, Honey Badger, which sprinted along the bottom of a swimming pool, according to the technology news website TechCrunch.
What is known about the robot
MAB Robotics showcased the latest trick of its robot Honey Badger, with a video demonstrating the quadruped running along the bottom of a swimming pool.
While moving on legs underwater may not be the most efficient solution compared to screw mechanisms, the developers aimed to highlight the reliability and dynamism of the robot's design.
According to the creators, originally designed for ground operations, the Honey Badger could be valuable in search and rescue missions in disaster areas.
"Developing locomotion systems capable of navigating the challenges of underwater terrain is a fascinating journey and I’m excited about the potential impact this work could have on inspection and maintenance services in flooded areas," said MAB co-founder and CEO Jakub Bartoszek.
Search and rescue operations have become an important application area for autonomous robotic systems, allowing humans to avoid entering dangerous zones after natural or human-made disasters.
