There are moments in relationships when you can no longer "wait a little longer" or "give one more chance." When it's not a crisis from which you can grow together, but a situation where continuing means slowly destroying yourself, how to understand that your relationship is on the verge and you urgently need to call it quits? Life coach and sexologist Vitalii Kursik explains.
According to the expert, sometimes the signals that it's time to end a relationship are almost imperceptible, but if you listen closely to yourself, everything becomes clear.
Here are a few moments when you should seriously consider putting an end to it:
You constantly feel tense
It's more peaceful when you're not together. You don't relax in the relationship; instead, you stay "on alert" to avoid conflict.
"If the relationship is such that you want to run away to the ends of the Earth and hide in dark caves, it’s time to think about ending it," adds Vitalii Kursik.
You feel less valuable
Your needs are devalued, your desires are ignored, and your self-esteem slowly fades. You’ve stopped being a priority for your partner.
You’re not being heard
You’ve spoken, explained, and asked. In response, silence or aggression. Sometimes, this is worse than an argument.
You’re changing for worse
You become irritable, tired, and indifferent. The relationship drains you instead of adding to your energy.
You’re scared
Not about the future, but just being close.
"You’re scared to be yourself, scared to say anything, scared to relax. In such cases, it’s not always necessary to give 'one more chance,'" adds the expert.
Sometimes the bravest and most mature decision is to leave the relationship. Not because you don’t love, but because you can no longer betray yourself.
"Sometimes, a full stop is not a defeat but the beginning of a new sentence. If you’re struggling with making an important decision, you can always discuss it with a professional," concludes Vitalii Kursik.
