Record set: Ukrainian Defense Intelligence attacked horizon radar at night from over 1800 km
A drone operated by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) struck a Russian Voronezh-M over-the-horizon radar station on May 26, according to the RBC-Ukraine's source.
The targeted radar station is located in the city of Orsk in the Orenburg region of the Russian Federation.
"The Ukrainian drone covered a distance of over 1,800 kilometers to the enemy target, setting a new range record for kamikaze drones," the source reported.
The consequences of the strike are currently being clarified.
Voronezh over-the-horizon radar stations
The Voronezh family consists of stationary, long-range over-the-horizon radar stations designed to detect space and aerodynamic objects, including ballistic and cruise missiles. The family includes:
- Meter-wave band stations: Voronezh-M, Voronezh-VP
- Decimeter-wave band stations: Voronezh-DM
- Centimeter-wave band stations: Voronezh-SM
The Voronezh-M, which was struck by the DIU drone today, can detect targets at distances up to 6,000 kilometers.
Previous record
The previous record was set by the Security Service of Ukraine on May 9. At that time, an attack was carried out on an oil refinery in Bashkiria. Before striking, the drone covered a distance of approximately 1,500 kilometers.
