Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has revealed the cause of death of Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022. He said that the monarch was diagnosed with bone cancer a few years before her death, reports Daily Mail.

Johnson mentioned the Queen's health in his memoir Unleashed. He described in detail his last meeting with her at Balmoral Castle in September 2022, a few days before her death.

“I had known for a year or more that she had a form of bone cancer, and her doctors were worried that at any time she could enter a sharp decline,” he writes.

Before the meeting, the monarch's private secretary, Edward Young, warned him that her health had deteriorated over the summer.

“She seemed pale and more stooped, and she had dark bruising on her hands and wrists, probably from drips or injections,” Johnson says.

However, her mind, as Edward emphasized, was completely clear and unaffected by the disease. From time to time during the conversation, she showed her trademark white smile.

Johnson also noted that Elizabeth II had known all summer that life was leaving her, but was determined to hold on to the last and do her duty, overseeing a peaceful and orderly transition of power from him to his successor, Liz Truss.

Former Conservative Party leader Johnson officially resigned during the meeting. He was the 14th Prime Minister during the Queen's historic 70-year reign.

He also voiced the last piece of advice the Queen gave him:

“There's no point in bitterness.” She said that if everyone in politics and life could see this as clearly as she did, the world would be a much happier place.

What was said earlier about Elizabeth II's health

Johnson is not the first to talk about the monarch's cancer. In December 2022, in his book “Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait", the royal biographer Gyles Brandreth wrote that Her Majesty had a rare form of myeloma, a bone marrow cancer. He emphasized that this diagnosis explained her fatigue, weight loss, and mobility problems, which had been frequently mentioned recently.

The official cause of the queen's death was old age, and the palace has never released any medical data that would indicate a different cause.

After the death of Elizabeth II, her eldest son Charles III ascended the throne. This year he was also diagnosed with cancer and has already undergone chemotherapy.
