Putin visits Mongolia amid arrest warrant concerns
The head of the Kremlin Vladimir Putin arrived in Mongolia today, September 2nd, for a visit. He is supposed to be arrested there, according to RIA-Novosti.
According to the Russian agency, the plane carrying Putin landed in Mongolia. Journalists released the corresponding video.
Russian leader is supposed to be arrested
It is worth noting that Mongolia ratified the Rome Statute over 20 years ago. Therefore, the country is obliged to comply with the decisions of the International Criminal Court, which issued a warrant for the arrest of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in 2023.
The warrant was issued because the head of the Kremlin is suspected of being involved in the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia. In addition to Putin, a warrant was also issued for the arrest of Russia’s Commissioner for Children's Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova.
Thus, Putin visited a country that had ratified the Rome Statute for the first time in over a year.
According to Bloomberg, the head of the Kremlin received assurances from Mongolia that he would not be arrested.
Purpose of the visit
It is worth noting that, according to the Kremlin’s press service, Putin came to Mongolia at the invitation of President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh.
His visit is related to the anniversary of the "victory of Soviet and Mongolian forces over the Japanese at the Khalkhin Gol River."
