The Kremlin has said that US First Lady Melania Trump’s peace initiatives could be extended to other conflict zones, states Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
According to him, such steps are entirely possible on humanitarian grounds.
"On humanitarian grounds, this is entirely possible, especially when it involves direct and highly positive coordination in this process by the American side, US negotiators, and US First Lady Melania Trump," Peskov noted.
He added that the aggressor country "highly values these efforts" and said that "this could set a precedent."
What preceded this
The White House said Melania Trump had acted as a mediator in negotiations on a localized ceasefire in Oleshky. She directly engaged with the Ukrainian and Russian leadership to coordinate the terms of the ceasefire.
According to Melania Trump, she learned about the humanitarian situation in Oleshky during an event in New York held as part of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. A communication channel established during the previous six stages of the return of 34 children was used to coordinate the negotiations.
According to the US First Lady’s Office, the localized ceasefire will begin on October 29, 2026.
Earlier, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said that the ceasefire in Oleshky was due to take effect on October 27. The Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams reached the relevant agreement.
In addition, Ukrainian troops carried out a complex operation involving drones to deliver around four tonnes of food and medicine to residents of occupied Oleshky.
