Putin must understand: US is ready to turn him and Russia into 'fish food,' senator says

Senator John Kennedy has called for increased pressure on Russia, stating that the United States is ready to make the country "fish food." He emphasized that the Kremlin has failed to honor its promises, Fox News Sunday reports, citing Republican Senator John Kennedy.
In the context of Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine, Kennedy delivered harsh criticism of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and his actions toward both the United States and Ukraine.
According to the US Senator, Putin broke all the promises he made to President Donald Trump and is now trying to keep all the Ukrainian territories captured during his aggression.
"Putin has reneged on every promise that he has made to President Trump. His latest proposal is, well, nothing. He wants to keep all the territory that he's taken," Kennedy stated.
US Senator also stressed that Putin aims to block Ukraine's path to NATO membership and seeks to force the US and Europe to cease their support for Ukraine.
Kennedy fiercely criticized Putin for disrespecting Trump and not recognizing his leadership, declaring that "we are willing to turn him and his country into fish food."
The Senator highlighted the importance of a strong response to Kremlin actions to restore stability in Ukraine and ensure international security.
Meanwhile, President Trump demanded that Putin stop strikes on Kyiv and expressed his dissatisfaction with continued attacks on Ukraine.
Kennedy believes that to end the war, Russia must face serious consequences and insisted that Europe should bear a larger share of the financial burden.
"We've got to make Putin understand that there is a price to be paid for his jacking our President around," the US Senator emphasized, underlining the need for continued pressure on the Kremlin.
Trump's position on Putin
On April 24, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, resulting in casualties in the capital.
On Saturday, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met at the Vatican during the funeral ceremony for Pope Francis. Before the ceremony, the two leaders held a private meeting.
Shortly after, Trump posted on social media that Russia had no justification for launching missile attacks on Kyiv.
In the same post, the US President suggested that a different approach toward the Russian leader might be needed - namely, through the use of sanctions.
Furthermore, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that this week will be critical for determining whether a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine can be reached.
