Russian leader Vladimir Putin spoke with US President Donald Trump, discussing, among other things, a possible ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, according to Putin.

According to him, the conversation was "very informative and quite frank," as well as "useful."

Putin claimed that Trump expressed his position on a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

"For my part, I noted that Russia, too, is in favor of a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. We simply need to determine the most effective ways of moving toward peace," Putin said.

He added that Russia is ready to work with Ukraine on a memorandum "regarding a possible future peace agreement, outlining a number of positions: principles of settlement, timelines for a possible peace deal, including a possible ceasefire for a certain period of time."

The Kremlin leader clarified that such outcomes are possible if "relevant agreements are reached".

Ukraine-Russia ceasefire

Negotiations between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump are taking place after Russia once again rejected an unconditional ceasefire with Ukraine last week.

During talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul, both sides agreed to present their visions for a ceasefire in written form.

The idea of a minimum 30-day ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia was initially proposed by the United States. Ukraine supported it immediately, while Russia set virtually impossible conditions.

According to media reports, Russia is demanding that Ukraine withdraw its forces from four regions - Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. Only then will Moscow agree to a ceasefire.
