Russian leader Vladimir Putin called Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. They discussed the plane crash in Kazakhstan.

“During the phone conversation, the heads of state continued to discuss issues related to the crash of the passenger plane of the Azerbaijan Hava Yollari Closed Joint Stock Company,” the president's website says.

Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash

A passenger plane crashed in Kazakhstan near the city of Aktau. Today, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that the plane was damaged on the territory of Russia and explained that the plane was damaged as a result of shelling from the ground.

At the time of the crash, there were 67 people on board. The crash killed 38 people, including the pilots.

Today, by Aliyev's decree, the dead crew members were awarded the title of Hero of Azerbaijan.
