Putin and Zelenskyy are not yet ready to meet, but 'something is going to happen' — Trump

US President Donald Trump said he remains committed to a peaceful agreement between Russia and Ukraine, despite growing uncertainty on the issue. However, the leaders of the countries are not yet ready for the summit, CBS News reports.
In an interview, Trump described his position on the negotiations as realistic and optimistic and added that he is closely monitoring how the parties are successfully overcoming the difficulties on the way to negotiations.
"I've been watching it, I've been seeing it, and I've been talking about it with President Putin and President Zelenskyy. Something is going to happen, but they are not ready yet. But something is going to happen. We are going to get it done," the American leader said.
Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with the recent massive Russian attacks on Ukraine and their consequences, in particular, the deaths of Ukrainian civilians.
"I think we're going to get it all straightened out," he said.
According to Trump, he thought that Russia's war against Ukraine "would have been on the easier side of the ones I've stopped."
"But it seems to be something that's a little bit more difficult than some of the others," he concluded.
Russia-Ukraine war talks
US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin met in Alaska on August 15. The main topic of the summit was negotiations on peace in Ukraine.
At the same time, according to Western media reports, Putin expressed a number of conditions for a peace agreement, including significant territorial concessions by Kyiv in four regions of Ukraine.
On August 18, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Washington with European leaders. At a meeting with Trump, they discussed Zelenskyy's meeting with Putin and security guarantees for Ukraine.
After the summit, Zelenskyy demonstrated his readiness and openness to negotiations with Russia, but the Kremlin began to look for reasons to prevent the meeting of the leaders from taking place.
