The Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that there are "problems" in the relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. During a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in China, they only exchanged a few words, according to the Kremlin chief's press conference.

Putin said that in the relations between the countries, "there are always some issues," given the current situation or political circumstances.

"There are problems. Today, President Aliyev and I greeted each other, I also greeted his wife, and we exchanged a few words," the Kremlin leader added.

He also believes that the fundamental relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as their mutual interest in developing them, will supposedly "put everything in its place."

Conflict between Russia and Azerbaijan

In December last year, a passenger plane of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) crashed in Kazakhstan.

It was later revealed that the plane was shot down by Russian air defense as it was preparing to land in Grozny.

Moscow refused to apologize to Baku for the incident.

Meanwhile, in June of this year, Russian law enforcement carried out mass raids on members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg. The harsh actions of the Russian police resulted in casualties.
