Protests in Georgia: Security forces disperse demonstrators, using rubber bullets
In Georgia, law enforcement authorities have once again started dispersing protests against the "Russian" law. They are using rubber bullets for this purpose, according to NewsGeorgia and Ekho Kavkaza on Telegram.
According to online sources, the police are dispersing protesters gathered near the parliament. Law enforcement officers are using pepper spray, tear gas, and other means.
The most intense actions are taking place near the side entrance to the parliament through the gates.
Additionally, photos of a person injured by a rubber bullet are being circulated on Telegram channels.
What preceded
Today, May 1st, the Georgian parliament passed a controversial foreign agents bill in the second reading. With this initiative, the government can control companies funded from abroad. A similar law has already been passed in Russia.
Last year, pro-Russian politicians from the Georgian Dream party attempted to push this law through parliament, but they failed. Georgian citizens started mass protests, and under this pressure, the lawmakers had to withdraw the initiative from parliament.
This year, the Georgian Dream party reintroduced the bill for consideration. Protests have resumed in the country.
