Protests erupt in Spain after deadly floods
Thousands of people demonstrated in Valencia. The protests are a response to the way regional authorities have handled the devastating floods, reports Reuters.
In the latest demonstration over the floods, protesters filled the center of Valencia, demanding the resignation of regional government leader Carlos Mazón and chanting “Murderers!”
“Our hands are stained with mud, yours are stained with blood,” one of the banners read.

In protest, some demonstrators threw muddy boots outside the council building.
Residents of the affected areas accuse Mazón of raising the alarm too late, at 20:00 on October 29, when water had already flooded many nearby towns and villages.
Instead, the Valencia mayor said that he would have raised the alarm earlier if the authorities had been notified of the seriousness of the situation by the official water monitoring body.
The recent floods claimed the lives of more than 220 people in one of the worst natural disasters in Europe in decades.
Earlier, we wrote that in Spain, an angry crowd threw mud at the monarchs in the epicenter of the flood. Residents expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that government officials arrived for an official visit only six days after the tragedy and criticized officials for the delay in providing assistance to the victims.
The number of flood victims in Spain continues to grow. Local services are working to eliminate the consequences of the bad weather.
