Prime Minister of Estonia resigns
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas submitted resignation to President Alar Karis, citing ERR.
During an extraordinary session, both Kallas and her government submitted their resignations.
Kallas will continue to serve as Prime Minister until the new government assumes office. She expressed hope that the new government would be formed quickly.
Kallas has served as Prime Minister since January 2021.
Reason for Kallas's resignation
The European Council recently approved candidates for leadership positions in the EU for the next five years, among them Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who has been proposed for the role of High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
At the end of June, Estonia's Reform Party nominated Kristen Michal, who serves as the Minister of Climate in Kallas's government, as a candidate for Prime Minister of Estonia to replace her.
