Prime Minister confirms Russian drone attack on Poland, calls it large-scale provocation

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that Russia attacked his country with drones on the night of September 10. A Polish high-ranking official called it a large-scale provocation, according to Tusk’s statement on X and the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
“Last night, the Polish airspace was violated by a huge number of Russian drones. Those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down. I am in constant communication with the Secretary General of NATO and our allies,” Tusk stated.
During the emergency government meeting, Tusk stated that the drones over Poland were a provocation.
Polish Prime Minister emphasized that his country is likely dealing with a large-scale provocation and keeps consulting with its allies.
Tusk also noted that Polish President Karol Nawrocki is aware of the situation.
NATO involvement in drone interceptions
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces reported that all Russian strike drones that entered Polish territory were shot down. NATO and Dutch F-35 fighter jets participated in their destruction.
“The operation of Polish and allied aircraft related to violations of Polish airspace has ended,” the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces noted.
After the nighttime attack, ground-based air defense systems and radar surveillance returned to normal operations. Meanwhile, the search continues for possible crash sites of objects that crossed Polish airspace.
The military stressed that the Polish Armed Forces constantly monitor the situation in Ukraine and remain ready to defend the country’s airspace.
Shahed attack on Poland
Russian Shahed strike drones massively entered Polish airspace on the night of September 10. According to Flightradar24, an F-35 fighter jet was also in the sky at that time.
Previously, Russian drones had also been recorded over Poland, but these were isolated cases with one or two drones that posed no serious threat.
Today, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, not one but eight Shahed UAVs flew toward Poland.
Due to the attack, the airspace over four Polish airports was closed. Ground-based air defense systems and radars were placed on the highest alert.
In the morning, Tusk received a report from the operational commander of the army and convened an emergency government meeting.
In connection with the attack on Poland, Ukraine’s Presidential Office Adviser Mykhailo Podolyak warned of a potential large-scale tragedy for many European countries amid the Russian drone incursion into Poland on the night of September 10.
