It is important for Ukraine that the US positions the peace plan as its own initiative. Therefore, constructive work must continue, said Oleksandr Bevz, Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Bevz was asked to comment on rumors that the American peace plan was actually based on a Russian document.

"What matters for us is that the American side positions this document as its own stance. We can only respond to how the document is positioned and work with it. This is constructive work; everything else happens outside the diplomatic process," the advisor said.

He clarified that the points of the US peace plan were discussed in Geneva without ultimatums.

Bevz also said that US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is expected to visit Ukraine this weekend.

Leaks of Witkoff-Ushakov talks

Earlier, Bloomberg published a text version of conversations between US President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, as well as Ushakov's discussion with Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

During the call, Dmitriev instructed Ushakov to pass a Russian draft of the peace plan to Witkoff so that the American side could revise it and present it as their own peace plan.

Media reports had previously indicated that American officials worked on the peace plan alongside Russian officials.

This also explains the presence of maximalist Russian demands in the plan, such as the transfer of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions to Russia.
