Italy plays an important role in supporting Ukraine during its war with Russia, but it has the capabilities and resources to do much more, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov said, according to La Stampa.
Budanov noted that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has always stood by Ukraine and done everything possible to help the country withstand Russia's full-scale invasion.
According to Budanov, this is demonstrated by 12 aid packages, the SAMP/T system and the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome.
"Also by Prime Minister Meloni's consistent position, both in Europe and in dialogue with Washington. We appreciate this and will always remember it," the head of the presidential office said.
Budanov believes that Rome is capable of doing much more for Ukraine.
Against this backdrop, he stressed the importance of continuing to work on supplying ammunition for SAMP/T systems.
"It is also worth considering the possibility of joint drone production: Italy has industrial capacity, while Ukraine has the experience. This partnership would strengthen both sides," Budanov said.
Moreover, Italy could also play an important role in Black Sea security.
"Protecting shipping, air and coastal defense, insurance coverage, and securing corridors are areas where Italy and Europe in particular can make a concrete contribution without increasing the risk of escalation," the head of the presidential office explained.
Budanov also reiterated that European support is not an alternative to peace but a necessary condition for achieving it.
The head of the presidential office also said that Ukraine is preparing a full bill for Russia for the war.
