The conflict between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office could accelerate negotiations between the US and Russia. Despite public disagreements, the Kremlin hopes for a quick restoration of dialogue, CNN reports.
According to diplomatic sources from CNN, the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office was not a random altercation but a planned political mugging aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian leader and removing him as an obstacle to Trump's further actions.
While Moscow's reaction to this incident was strikingly positive, it is expected that negotiations between the US and Russia will gain new momentum, accelerating in the coming weeks.
Although nothing has been officially announced, rumors have surfaced about the acceleration of a summit between Trump and Putin. Meanwhile, optimism has returned in the Kremlin regarding the possibility of economic agreements with the US, with the disagreements between Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump potentially pushing the issue of ending the war in Ukraine to the backburner.
"Nord Stream-2"
A key point of discussion is the potential involvement of American investors to resume the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, which was halted after Russia's war in Ukraine began.
Kremlin’s key economic envoy to the talks Kirill Dmitriev stated that cooperation with the US could “include energy”, although details have not been disclosed.
In addition, Dmitriev proposed new opportunities for cooperation in the fields of investment, scientific research, and even space missions, particularly a joint Mars project involving the US, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
However, despite the benefits, there is a serious threat that such close ties with the Kremlin could lead to a withdrawal of support from Western allies, leaving Europe isolated.
Trump is attempting to shift towards a new geopolitical reality where Russia becomes an important strategic partner of the US, raising many questions among political observers.
This sharp turn in Washington's foreign policy has sparked new speculations and doubts about why the Kremlin was chosen by Trump over America's traditional allies.
Trump and Zelenskyy conflict
On February 28, during an official visit to Washington, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Donald Trump at the White House. The negotiations between the leaders became tense over a dispute regarding the signing of a peace agreement and the end of the war.
The conflict arose after a statement from US Vice President JD Vance, who emphasized that the only path to peace is diplomacy with Russia. In response, Zelenskyy accused Russia of violating previous agreements, which irritated Trump.
The American President blamed the Ukrainian leader for "playing with World War III."
After the meeting, US allies supported Zelenskyy, while Democrats in Congress criticized Trump. However, Trump's team placed the responsibility for the conflict on the Ukrainian leader.
