Powerful magnetic storms to hit Earth this week: All dangerous dates When will there be magnetic storms from February 17 to 21 (photo: Freepik)

Scientists predict increased solar activity in the coming week, from February 17 to 21. This will lead to geomagnetic disturbances and even a powerful geostorm. On such days, people's health may deteriorate, and there may be problems with the operation of communications and technology.

What is a magnetic storm

Solar flares and coronal mass ejections release large amounts of energy and charged particles into space. When this energy reaches the Earth's magnetosphere and begins to interact with it, a disturbance called a magnetic storm occurs.

How magnetic storms affect humans

Physical well-being. Some people may experience headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and general deterioration of health during magnetic storms.

Emotional state. Violent solar activity can cause increased anxiety, irritability, and depression.

Sleep. Magnetic storms can disrupt sleep, causing insomnia, severe daytime sleepiness, or poor sleep.

These are the most common complaints on days of magnetic storms:

  • Headaches
  • Migraine
  • Dizziness
  • Fog in the head
  • Insomnia
  • Weakness
  • Drowsiness during the day
  • Rapid fatigue
  • Decreased concentration and performance
  • Increased anxiety
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Aggression
  • Depressive states
  • Pressure surges
  • Problems with heartbeat

Forecast of magnetic storms for the next week

February 17 (Monday) Moderate magnetic storm, K-index 4. People who are more sensitive to weather changes may feel worse.

February 18 (Tuesday) A strong red-level magnetic storm (K-index 5). A significant geomagnetic disturbance is expected, which may lead to a deterioration in health, including headaches, increased fatigue, and irritability.

February 19 (Wednesday) A strong red-level magnetic storm (K-index 5). Continuation of geomagnetic disturbance, which can affect not only the health of people but also cause malfunctioning of electronic devices and communication systems.

February 20 (Thursday). Decrease in the power of the magnetic storm (K-index 4). The geostorm will decline, but the impact still remains. Many people may still experience discomfort.

February 21 (Friday). The geomagnetic situation is gradually returning to normal (K-index 3).

Please note that forecasts of magnetic storms are subject to change, so it is recommended to regularly follow updates from official sources and scientists.

How to protect yourself from magnetic storms

Doctors advise on such days to follow a normal daily routine, not to overexert yourself, limit physical and psycho-emotional stress, and take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Basic tips:

  • Good sleep, at least 7-9 hours a day
  • Normal nutrition - more vegetables and fruits, a balanced diet, excluding salty, harmful, spicy foods.
  • Drink enough water throughout the day
  • Be sure to walk in the fresh air, ventilate the room
  • Reduce physical activity
  • Do not overstrain yourself, do not quarrel, and do quiet things
  • If your health deteriorates, seek medical attention.
