Powerful magnetic storm hits Earth: How long it will last
The strongest magnetic storm of the highest red levels hit the Earth over the weekend. Its impact will last for several more days and it can cause a deterioration in health, according to Meteoagent.
What is magnetic storm?
Regular flares and explosions on the Sun lead to the release of large amounts of solar energy into space. This energy consists of charged particles (protons and electrons) that quickly spread in different directions, including towards the Earth.
When these particles reach the Earth's magnetosphere, an activity called magnetic or solar storms occurs.
All magnetic storms are distinguished by their levels and power, and scientists classify them by K-index. From K-index 1 to K-index 4, these are weak fluctuations, almost imperceptible.
All storms above the K-index of 5 are red-level storms. The higher the K-index, the stronger the storm and the more its consequences can affect human activity. Such storms can disrupt radio frequency communication sources, GPRS, cell towers, and satellites. Storms above K-index 7 may have auroras.
Nearest storm
According to NOAA, TESIS, and international meteorological laboratories around the world, a red-level storm with a K-index hit the Earth on March 21. Over the weekend, the level of this storm rose to a critical K-index of 9.
On Monday, a red-level storm with a K-index of 8 is raging over the Earth. On Tuesday, March 26, the storm will become weaker, but its level will be at the level of K-index 5.
Only on Wednesday, March 27, will the geomagnetic situation begin to calm down.

Impact of magnetic storm on humans
Many different studies confirm the relationship between human health and intense magnetic storms. On such days, there are significantly more complaints of deteriorating health, more visits to doctors, especially cardiologists.
Frequent complaints:
- Migraine
- Headache
- Sleep problems - insomnia, severe drowsiness
- Fog in the head
- Dizziness and lightheadedness
- Impaired concentration
- General weakness
- Fatigue and tiredness
- Increased anxiety
- Aggression
- Exacerbation of chronic diseases
- Aches and pains in the bones.
But such magnetic storms pose the greatest danger to astronauts who are outside the protective shield of the Earth's atmosphere. They can be exposed to high levels of radiation, which significantly increases the risk of developing cancer.
How to protect your body
Doctors usually give general recommendations at the bottom of magnetic storms. Following these tips will allow you to go through the days of magnetic storms without any special consequences.
- Follow a normal daily routine
- Get enough sleep for at least 7-9 hours a day
- Eat a normal diet
- Drink enough water
- Do not abuse coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, junk and spicy food
- Monitor your health condition
- If necessary, reduce physical activity
- Get more rest
- Be sure to walk in the fresh air and ventilate the room
- Engage in calmer activities
- Try not to be nervous and reduce psycho-emotional stress
- Consult a doctor if you feel unwell.
