Possible Russian offensive threat over Sumy and Kharkiv - Ukrainian military explains

Russia has intensified its military operations in Ukraine's Sumy and Kharkiv regions, but this should not be mistaken for a direct assault on the cities of Sumy and Kharkiv themselves, Andriy Kovalenko, Head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation, reports.
"Don't confuse the words about Sumy and Kharkiv regions with Sumy and Kharkiv. The Russians have really been active in the direction of Sumy and Kharkiv regions for quite some time now," Kovalenko said.
The Head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation also emphasized that talk of an assault on the cities is premature, as "these are very different things."
"It's important not to distort the words of the military but to interpret them correctly," Kovalenko added.
Intensification of the Russian offensive in Sumy and Kharkiv regions
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi previously reported that Russia had essentially launched a new wave of assaults in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions, with the number of battles rising along key axes.
Western media began reporting on Russian preparations for a new offensive as early as late March.
According to the Associated Press, Moscow has been preparing for a large-scale campaign expected to last between six and nine months - potentially dominating much of 2025.
