Possible Russia’s stance on 30-day ceasefire: Political analyst explains

The proposal for a full ceasefire on the front line is a challenge not only for Russia but also for US President Donald Trump, the political scientist Oleg Sahakyan says in a comment for RBC-Ukraine’s YouTube channel.
According to Saakyan, Russia has no favorable option regarding a full ceasefire, as the Kremlin has not abandoned its plans for Ukraine's destruction. Therefore, relying on the "goodwill" of the aggressor state is unrealistic.
The enemy may agree to a full ceasefire only under pressure, threats, and specific mechanisms from Washington. The main intrigue, as the analyst explained, is whether Trump is ready to act if Russia refuses to comply.
Saakyan noted that Russia has previously found itself in similar diplomatic "traps" and has experience navigating them. He warned against underestimating Russia’s diplomacy, which has a history of turning weaknesses into strengths.
"I think they will introduce new conditions and stall for time. They will say 'yes,' but only if, for example, troops are withdrawn to a certain distance. They will try to shift the responsibility onto Ukraine by introducing unacceptable terms," the political analyst added.
Ceasefire proposal
On March 11, US and Ukrainian delegations met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for eight hours of negotiations. Key agreements included:
- Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire, awaiting Russia’s response.
- The US resumed military aid and intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
- Both sides reaffirmed plans to sign a cooperation agreement on rare earth minerals.
