Pope Francis bequeathed part of his estate to Ukraine, according to Bild.

The inheritance from Pope Francis, who passed away in April this year, was discussed by nun Lucia Caram on a Spanish radio program.

According to her, the pontiff’s will specified that part of his funds should be used to purchase ambulances for Ukraine, specifically mentioning war zones.

As BILD writes, Lucía (Luisia) Caram has traveled to Ukraine multiple times on humanitarian missions since February 2022. According to the nun, she was deeply moved by the gesture of the pontiff, who during his life repeatedly promised her support.

"But I never expected it to come in this form," the outlet quotes her as saying.

Pope Francis and support for Ukraine

Pope Francis died on April 21, 2025, after a serious illness.

The pontiff repeatedly expressed his support for Ukraine and called for peace, though some of his statements were quite controversial.

He expressed solidarity with Ukrainians suffering from the war and urged the provision of humanitarian aid.

He also called for dialogue between the parties to the conflict, emphasizing that this is the only path to achieving peace.

The pontiff regularly urged the faithful to pray for peace in Ukraine and for the Ukrainian people.

Pope Francis met multiple times with Ukrainian politicians and religious leaders to discuss the situation in Ukraine, as well as with Ukrainian refugees.

He accepted an invitation to visit Ukraine in 2025.
