Polish Foreign Minister at UN compares Putin's regime to Nazi Germany
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Russia commits acts of genocide by abducting children in temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories, drawing a parallel to the actions of Nazi Germany, according to Sikorski's statement to the UN Security Council.
The Polish minister refuted several of the consistently false claims made by Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, including his assertion that Russia does not bomb civilian targets in Ukraine.
Sikorski stated that this was the second lie. He recounted his recent visit to Lviv, where a Russian missile struck a residential building, resulting in the deaths of children.
Moreover, he mentioned that Moscow kidnaps children in Ukraine and takes them to Russia to turn them into Russians, where they are brainwashed to strip away their memories and national identity.
The Polish representative noted that the United Nations recognizes these actions as war crimes, and in October 2022, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The minister asked Nebenzya whether what they were doing with the abducted Ukrainian children was any different from what the German Nazis had done with their children and others, emphasizing that kidnapping children in other countries equated to genocide, as recently confirmed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Sikorski asserted that this was a disgrace for Russia that would not be forgiven or forgotten.
He also dismissed another falsehood from the Russian ambassador, claiming that the Soviet Union did not collaborate with the Nazis during the invasion of Poland in 1939.
Recently, the European Union called on all states that ratified the Rome Statute to fulfill their obligations, specifically regarding the arrest of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin based on the warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
Putin has refused to fly to the inauguration of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum despite assurances of safety.
