In October, Polish farmers announced protests on the border with Ukraine. So far, the border crossings have not been blocked, states Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

“On the border with Poland, as they (farmers, ed.) announced, in the direction of the Shehyni checkpoint on the Ukrainian side, on the Polish side it is the Medyka direction, at the moment the traffic in this direction and in other directions remains stable and intense,” the spokesperson said.

He added that truck traffic is not restricted either to exiting or entering Ukraine.

Demchenko emphasized that Ukrainian border guards have not received any warnings from their Polish colleagues about blocking the border in the near future.

“Of course, we are in constant contact with them to understand how much the situation may change... but we hope that Polish farmers will not take such actions,” he said.

According to the spokesperson, the intensity of border crossing decreases in the fall compared to the summer period.

“In general, 90 thousand people cross the border on weekdays. As before, the largest passenger traffic is on the border with Poland. However, even with the decrease in passenger traffic, we also do not record queues for exit and entry,” said Demchenko.

Blockade of the border by the Poles

Poland has warned that local farmers have announced a new protest on the border with Ukraine. The strike was supposed to last from October 8 to December 31, 2024 at the Medyka-Shehyni border crossing.

Border guards and customs officers warned of possible delays in the passage of trucks.
