From Vandenberg Space Base in California, a Falcon 9 rocket was successfully launched carrying Polish dual-use satellites, according to Polish Radio.
The mission includes 140 payloads, among them five Polish satellites: MikroSAR from the Polish-Finnish company ICEYE, a constellation of three PIAST satellites, and a nanosatellite from the Wrocław-based company SatRev.
The MikroSAR satellite uses synthetic aperture radar technology, allowing it to monitor the Earth’s surface. The system provides continuous observation of strategic sites, including military, transport, and energy infrastructure, the Baltic Sea, and national borders.
In the event of war, the satellite can be used for reconnaissance, tracking troop movements, detecting hidden equipment, and assessing destruction.
The satellite’s creation resulted from an agreement signed in May between Poland’s Ministry of National Defense, the ICEYE consortium, and Military Signal Establishment No. 1.
SpaceX’s Starship rocket reached space and deployed satellites for the first time after a year of failed launches and explosions.
Hailed as the largest and most powerful rocket in history, Starship is a key element of SpaceX’s plans to launch large batches of Starlink satellites into Earth orbit, as well as to transport humans to the Moon and Mars in the future.
As we reported, OpenAI completed a deal valuing the company at $500 billion. This allows it to surpass Elon Musk’s SpaceX and become the world’s most valuable private company.
