Poland to build road to Kaliningrad border for rapid troop deployment
Poland's deputy minister for migration Maciej Duszczyk said in an interview with the Financial Times that Poland would soon build a road to the border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia. With this road, Polish troops will be able to respond more quickly to possible security breaches.
Poland intends to complete the construction of the border wall and close the border with Belarus by next summer. This is a necessary measure to stop the influx of migrants, which Warsaw calls Russia's hybrid war.
In the coming months, Warsaw will build a new road towards the Kaliningrad region. Duszczyk believes that these measures will bring Poland “as close to 100% security as possible.”
Poland is strengthening the border
Tensions in Poland's relations with Russia and Belarus have increased after Russia invaded Ukraine. Warsaw accuses Minsk and Moscow of deliberately controlling the flow of migrants to put pressure on the EU.
That is why Poland has launched the East Shield project, which will strengthen the border with Russia and Belarus. The Polish government has allocated 10 billion zlotys for it.
The start of constructing fortification lines on Poland's border with Russia was announced on November 1. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2028.
