On the night of December 27, Poland scrambled fighter jets in response to a potential Russian missile attack on Ukrainian territory, according to a statement on the Twitter account of the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
“Due to the activity of long-range Russian air forces striking Ukrainian territory, military aviation began operations in Polish airspace,” the Operational Command said.
It was noted that Poland’s fighter aircraft initiated operations, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached a state of readiness.
“These operations are preventive in nature and aimed at ensuring security and protecting our airspace, particularly in areas adjacent to zones under threat,” the statement said.
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces is monitoring the situation, and its subordinate forces remain ready to respond.
