Poland halts mass attempt by migrants to cross border from Belarus

In Poland, over the past four days, 250 attempts to illegally cross the border from the territory of Belarus have been recorded. Several people have been detained, the Polish border guards report.
According to the border guards, between April 18 and April 21, more than 250 attempts to illegally cross the border with Belarus were recorded, all of which were stopped.
"Two people were detained for facilitating illegal crossings. Stones were thrown at Polish patrols," the statement says.
Poland-Belarus relations
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, tensions between Poland and Belarus have increased. In particular, Polish authorities accuse Minsk of deliberately controlling migrant flows to put pressure on the EU. Belarus receives migrants and then directs them to the borders with Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia.
Poland strengthens its border
Because of these actions by Belarus, Poland decided to build fortifications along the border, as well as to tighten inspections and conduct military exercises.
Last year, Poland and the Baltic countries proposed that the European Union construct a 700-kilometer defense line along the borders with Russia and Belarus.
In particular, Poland plans to complete the construction of the wall on the border with Belarus by mid-2025.
