Poland intends to complete the construction and reinforcement of the wall on the border with Belarus by mid-2025. This procedure will help stop illegal migration to the country, according to Financial Times.

Deputy Minister of Migration of Poland Maciej Duszczyk says that once the work along the 400-kilometer border with Belarus is completed, it will bring security at the border to 100%.

“This artificially created migration route will be closed next summer, I hope and believe in it,” Duszczyk said.

However, he said that Warsaw should be prepared for another attempt by the Lukashenko regime to “escalate the conflict” and sabotage Poland's strengthened border infrastructure.

He explained that additional measures along the 400-kilometer border also include:

  • night vision cameras,
  • thermal imagers,
  • a new patrol road,
  • and reinforcement of the five-meter steel fence to be erected in 2022.

Tensions between Poland and Belarus have increased since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Warsaw accuses Minsk of deliberately controlling migrant flows to put pressure on the EU, an accusation that Belarus denies.

In this regard, Poland has announced the strengthening of its border with Belarus. Warsaw has also stepped up border checks and conducted military exercises.

Earlier, Poland and the Baltic states proposed that the EU build a 700-kilometer defense line on the border with Russia and Belarus.
