Pentagon documents leak suspect admits guilt
National Guard soldier of the Massachusetts Air National Guard Jack Teixeira has admitted his guilt in the leak of secret Pentagon documents that occurred last year, reports ABC News.
According to the signed plea agreement, Teixeira will serve 16 years in prison.
He agreed to plead guilty to all six counts of intentional retention and transmission of national defense information. In exchange, prosecutors agreed not to bring additional charges against him under the espionage statute.
As part of the deal, the suspect is required to undergo debriefings with representatives from the Pentagon and the US Department of Justice, and return all secret materials that may have been in his possession.
Leak of secret documents
Last year, secret Pentagon documents were leaked online. These documents contained information about Russia's war against Ukraine, plans of Ukrainian defenders, and more.
American law enforcement officials arrested a suspect in the leak - National Guard soldier of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, Jack Teixeira.
In June of last year, he pleaded not guilty to six counts of intentional retention and transmission of national defense information.
The indictment specifically states that the suspect disclosed types of weaponry that the United States was prepared to transfer to Ukraine, how that equipment would be transferred, and how it would be used after receipt.
