The Pentagon has denied media reports claiming that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a halt to offensive cyber operations against Russia, Bloomberg reports.

According to the media resource, Hegseth did not cancel or postpone any cyber operations targeting malicious Russian entities. There was also no order to cease offensive operations under this priority.

Earlier, several American media outlets informed that Hegseth had ordered US Cyber Command to abandon all plans against Russia, including offensive digital actions.

However, the report about the halt sparked an angry reaction from Democrats, particularly Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who stated that the Trump administration was giving “a free pass as Russia continues to launch cyber operations and ransomware attacks against critical American infrastructure.”

The reports about the halt also suggested that it occurred before US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy openly clashed on Friday, February 28, at the White House.

When asked about earlier reports of the operations being halted, the Pentagon declined to comment but stated that for Hegseth, there is no higher priority than the security of US troops.
