Strengthening Ukrainian air defense systems is a top priority at today's meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein Group), says Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin at the opening of the Ramstein meeting.

He said allies would focus specifically on strengthening Ukrainian air defense systems so that Ukraine could effectively control its airspace. This is the highest priority today, Austin said

He also adds that Ukraine needs more artillery systems so that it can reclaim lands currently under the control of the Russian army.

Austin promises that Western countries will do everything in their power to help Ukraine.

Today, April 26, another meeting of the Ramstein Group is taking place at the level of defense ministers.

This meeting comes just days after the US Congress passed a bill allocating funds to aid Ukraine. The American government has already provided the first package of assistance to Ukraine, including weapons worth $1 billion.

As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, the meeting is planned to address issues arising from the pause in American aid.
