Pentagon officials are preparing major structural changes to the US military command. The plans include the dismissal of some officials and a reduction in the level of functions of the US Army headquarters worldwide, according to The Washington Post.

It is reported that Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine, will brief Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in the coming days on a plan to reorganize the country’s military command structures.

Five informed sources told the outlet that if the proposal is approved, it would represent one of the most significant changes in the US military’s senior leadership in decades.

The Washington Post reports that the plan involves altering the level of significance of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), US European Command (EUCOM), and US Africa Command (AFRICOM). All three will be placed under a new structure — the US International Command.

Additionally, the number of top military commands will be reduced from eleven to eight. The number of four-star generals and admirals reporting directly to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will also change.

Sources explained that the reorganization measures will complement the US administration's efforts to reallocate resources from Europe and the Middle East, with a greater focus on expanding military operations in the Western Hemisphere.

Recently, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth noted that the US armed forces are studying the use of autonomous weapon systems in combat in Ukraine to apply these lessons in their own operations.

According to the Pentagon chief, autonomous platforms and artificial intelligence technologies will shape the nature of future armed conflicts.
