Redford went down in history as one of the most famous actors of the late 1960s and 1970s.
He gained worldwide fame for roles in classic films such as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "All the President's Men."

He was instantly recognizable by his signature tousled hair and natural charisma.
At the same time, he proved himself as a talented director, an active public figure, and an entrepreneur who left a significant mark on culture.
In 1980, he won an Oscar for Best Director for the drama "Ordinary People." This was the first of his nine directorial works.
Redford's greatest creative legacy remains the Sundance Institute, which he founded in 1981.
The nonprofit organization launched the annual Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
This festival became a platform for bold, unconventional projects and introduced a new generation of filmmakers to the world.

"I saw other stories out there that weren't having a chance to be told, and I thought, well, maybe I can commit my energies to giving those people a chance," Redford said in a 2018 interview.
Over more than sixty years in film, he was awarded two Oscars, including an honorary award in 2002, as well as three Golden Globes.
In 1994, he received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement.
In 2016, US President Barack Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, noting that Americans "value Bob not only for his outstanding acting talent but also for his ability to move forward."
Even in his later years, Robert continued his profession: in 2017, he starred in the Netflix film "Our Souls at Night" alongside Jane Fonda, and in 2018, in "The Old Man & the Gun," which he called his final role.
