Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán sent an "open letter" to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and accused Kyiv of influencing the upcoming elections, the Hungarian prime minister reported.

"For four years, you have been working to force Hungary into the war between your country and Russia. During this time, you have received support from Brussels and secured the backing of the Hungarian opposition," Orbán said.

According to him, Ukraine, Brussels, and the Hungarian opposition allegedly coordinate efforts to bring a pro-Ukrainian government to power in Hungary.

"In recent days, you have blocked the Druzhba oil pipeline, which is critical to Hungary's energy supply. Your actions are against Hungary's interests and endanger the secure and affordable energy supply of Hungarian families," he added.

The Hungarian prime minister also called on Ukraine to change its "anti-Hungarian policy." He also added that he allegedly bears no responsibility for the situation in which Ukraine finds itself.

"We sympathise with the Ukrainian people, but we do not wish to participate in the war. We do not want to finance the war effort, and we do not want to pay more for energy," Orbán added.

In conclusion, he also called to "reopen the Druzhba oil pipeline" and refrain from "further attacks on Hungary's energy security."

What preceded

Recently, the political crisis between Ukraine and Hungary has escalated again amid the situation with the Druzhba oil pipeline, which Moscow struck and made it impossible to supply energy resources to Hungary and Slovakia.

At the same time, Orbán is accusing Kyiv of unwillingness to restore the pipeline's operation, justifying this with political reasons.

Zelenskyy, for his part, suggested that Orbán negotiate an energy truce with Moscow if he has complaints about the situation that has developed.

At the same time, despite the disputes, the Ukrainian side proposed a compromise to Hungary regarding the settlement of the situation with the Druzhba oil pipeline.
