Orbán's tricks? Zelenskyy's speech was not shown on Budapest summit broadcast
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attended the European Political Community summit in Budapest. However, his speech was not included in the official live stream of the event, according to Radio Free Europe.
Zelenskyy spoke second, after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and before French President Emmanuel Macron. The speeches of Macron and Orbán were broadcast live and posted online, while Zelenskyy’s speech was not shown.
The event’s organizer stated that Zelenskyy’s speech was allegedly not public, and the footage was provided to the president’s team. However, Ukrainian officials stated that Ukraine did not request such arrangements from the organizers.
"The president's speeches are always public if the format of the event provides for it. We have not made any requests not to broadcast or publish the speech," the response read.
Journalists eventually obtained video footage of the Ukrainian president’s speech and were able to share it with their colleagues.
Zelenskyy’s speech
Among other things, Zelenskyy thanked Ukraine’s partners for their support and noted that to defend Ukraine, a sufficient amount of weapons is needed, not support in negotiations.
“Hugs with Putin will not help. Some leaders have been hugging him for 20 years, and things are only getting worse. He thinks only about wars and will not change. Only pressure can put limits on him,” he said.
Summit in Hungary
Today, November 7, the European Political Community (EPC) summit took place in Hungary, with more than 40 leaders from nearly all European states attending. At the same time, Zelenskyy’s visit to Hungary is his first since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.
His trip to Budapest was at the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose country currently holds the presidency of the EU Council.
