Orbán offers trick to continue Russian gas transit through Ukraine
Hungary is negotiating with Russia and Ukraine to maintain Russian gas supplies through our country, reports Reuters. This is despite the fact that gas imports from Russia are now carried out through the Turkish Stream pipeline.
“We are now trying a trick... what if the gas, by the time it enters the territory of Ukraine, will no longer be Russian, but will already belong to the buyers. Thus, the gas coming to Ukraine will no longer be Russian, but Hungarian,” Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at a briefing.
Orbán added that negotiations are ongoing, and it is not yet clear whether the Russian partner and Ukraine will agree to this, but Hungary will not abandon the Ukrainian transit route for gas supplies.
Zelenskyy's position on gas transit from Russia to Europe
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said that Ukraine would not pump Russian gas in any form. The only possible option in which gas transit through Ukraine is possible, in his opinion, would be if the gas didn't belong to Russia.
