Orbán claims Ukraine's EU admission will ruin Hungary's economy

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán believes that Ukraine's joining the European Union is unthinkable here and now and could destroy the Hungarian economy, according to Hungarian Radio Kossuth.
Specifically, in a conversation he was asked whether Ukraine's integration into the EU would be discussed at next week's EU summit. The prime minister responded that he was against it, stating that Ukraine's accession to the EU is unthinkable here and now.
“For example, I am against it,” Orbán said.
He also added that he currently sees no argument that would justify Ukraine's accession from the perspective of Hungary's interests. However, he refrained from saying that his opposition would be permanent.
“I do not dare to say 'always and forever, never,’ because who knows what history will bring - no one except God - but I can say one thing for sure: here and now, it is unthinkable,” said the Hungarian prime minister.
At the same time, Orbán believes that Ukraine's EU accession could devastate Hungary's agricultural sector and the entire national economy.
Orbán's statements on Ukraine
Last year, Orbán opposed Ukraine's membership at the NATO summit in Zelenskyy's presence.
Orbán has also repeatedly made controversial statements about Ukraine. In particular, he claimed that Ukraine supposedly cannot defeat Russia in this war.
