One of Hamas leaders dies in Israeli jail - Reuters
One of Hamas's leaders in the West Bank has died in an Israeli jail following a deterioration in his health, according to the Palestinian Commission for Detainees.
According to the Palestinian Authority, 63-year-old Mustafa Muhammad Abu Ara died after being transferred from Ramon jail in southern Israel to a hospital. The Commission noted that the sheikh had suffered from serious health issues before his arrest and required intensive medical care.
"Before his arrest, he was suffering from serious health problems and needed intensive medical follow-up. However, from the moment of his arrest, Sheikh Abu Ara, like all prisoners, has faced unprecedented crimes ... since the beginning of the war of extermination," the statement said.
The Palestinian body added that Abu Ara, who was arrested last October, endured torture and was deprived of medical assistance.
Reuters notes that there has been no comment from Israel as of yet.
US Vice President Kamala Harris, following her meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that she would not remain silent about the suffering in Gaza. She also emphasized the need for a swift ceasefire agreement and the release of all hostages.
