The rivals started on equal terms, but in the third game the Japanese tennis player unexpectedly broke. Svitolina responded as befits a favorite. She did not give Uchijima any more points until the end of the game.
The Ukrainian broke the Japanese three times and played confidently on her own. In the end, Svitolina closed the set in just 32 minutes. The Ukrainian tennis player realized the set ball on the third attempt.
This ending to the game gave the former world number three inspiration for the second set. Svitolina simply flew forward, not giving Uchijima a single chance. The experienced Ukrainian athlete took five games from the start and only allowed the Japanese to break even at 5-0.
In the seventh game, Svitolina came out to serve for the match. Uchijima only slightly delayed the defeat, so the match lasted 62 minutes. In the next round, the Ukrainian will meet the winner of the match between Jessica Pegula of the United States and Victoria Golubic of Switzerland.
