Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis has secured the Olympic gold medal in pole vaulting, citing the competition results.

The 24-year-old Scandinavian faced no competition in the final. None of his rivals managed to clear the 6-meter mark.

Duplantis, on the other hand, cleared both 6.00 m and 6.10 m on his first attempts. By that point, the Swede had already secured the gold with a new Olympic record but decided to aim for the world record. The bar was set at 6.25 m, and Duplantis conquered it on his third attempt.

The previous record of 6.24 m also belonged to the Swedish athlete. The Olympic record (6.03 m) before that one was held by Brazilian Thiago Braz, who set it during the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Joining Duplantis on the podium were American Sam Kendricks and Greek athlete Emmanouil Karalis. The former managed a jump of 5.95 m, while the latter cleared 5.90 m. Ukrainian athletes, once dominant in the discipline thanks to Serhii Bubka, did not participate.
