Read how the evacuated residents of Oleshky were welcomed on Ukrainian territory in the RBC-Ukraine report below.

How the evacuation took place

On October 27, a ceasefire regime was introduced in the area of the temporarily occupied city of Oleshky in the Kherson region to conduct a humanitarian mission.

The mission is being implemented with the mediation of US First Lady Melania Trump.

The mission involves delivering humanitarian aid to civilians and preparing for the evacuation of residents. The silence regime will remain in effect until 11:59 pm Kyiv time on November 1.

Subsequently, the ceasefire zone was expanded beyond the city limits to guarantee the safety of humanitarian convoys.

Throughout the humanitarian mission, the silence regime was not violated.

On October 30, a Ukrainian delegation led by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets arrived in Oleshky. Ukrainian and American journalists also traveled to the city to provide independent coverage of the humanitarian mission.

The evacuation convoy consisted of 25 buses, 50 medical workers, and ambulances.

Evacuation and the distribution of humanitarian aid began immediately in the city.

The humanitarian convoy evacuated more than 750 residents of Oleshky. The majority chose to go to Ukraine, while some residents opted to go to Russia.

On the evening of October 30, the Ukrainian delegation departed for the Russian city of Anapa together with the evacuated residents of Oleshky.

From there, they flew by plane to Gomel (Belarus), after which they traveled by bus through the Nova Huta border crossing into Ukrainian territory.

On the afternoon of October 31, the evacuated residents of Oleshky arrived on Ukrainian territory - at the border with Belarus in the Chernihiv region.

In specially prepared tents, hot food, tea, and aid for children and pets were provided for the evacuees. A team of medics is also on duty to conduct examinations and provide assistance if needed.

According to Andrii Zhydenko, General Director of the Chernihiv Regional Hospital, evacuees are first examined by medics, and if there is no threat to life, they are sent to medical facilities or to their relatives.

The evacuees were also greeted by their relatives.

In particular, Iryna was waiting for her godfather, while Daria, who is originally from Oleshky, met her father.

According to Daria, food problems in Oleshky began as soon as Russians occupied the city. However, the current food situation in Oleshky is critical, as no products have been delivered at all. There is also no electricity, water, or gas.

Daria’s father survived thanks to his own garden, where he grew vegetables, and solar panels that provided electricity, but only in good weather.

There was also no mobile connection, but Daria’s father occasionally caught a signal near the window of his house and sent photos and videos to his relatives.
