Frozen green peas offer numerous health benefits. They can be stored for a long time without losing their nutritional qualities and contain a wealth of vitamins, according to British epidemiologist Tim Spector.

Why peas are beneficial

According to the expert, most of the products you buy are ultra-processed.

In particular, he always adds more frozen peas to his dishes to increase the amount of plant-based protein. Peas are rich in nutrients essential for maintaining health.

In 80 g of cooked peas, you’ll find:

  • 5.4 g of protein
  • 4.5 g of fiber
  • 1.2 mg of iron
  • 13 mg of vitamin C

"Most people don’t consider frozen peas a healthy food. It’s a good alternative to protein from meat," the expert added.

Frozen green peas are sweet and tender, consumed just like fresh peas. They can be boiled, fried, stewed, or baked. With frozen green peas, you can prepare soups, sauces, purees, salads, or warm side dishes.

An advantage of frozen peas is that they are available year-round.

With a low glycemic index (GI) and high fiber content, peas are a beneficial part of a diet if you need to manage blood sugar levels.

Peas contain starch in the form of amylose, which slows digestion and can help improve blood sugar balance. Peas also contain nutrients like magnesium, B vitamins, and vitamin C, which aid in blood sugar control.

Who should avoid peas

Peas should be consumed in small quantities as they can cause gas formation.

The vegetable is not recommended for frequent consumption by elderly people, breastfeeding mothers, and those with gout. Pea beans are rich in purines, which increase uric acid levels in the body and cause salt accumulation in joints, tendons, kidneys, and other organs.
