The death toll in Odesa has increased as a result of an enemy drone strike on a high-rise building. The bodies of the sixth and seventh victims were recovered from the rubble, reports the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

"The death toll from the nighttime Russian attack has risen to six. We also know about 8 wounded, including 1 child. Five people were rescued," the rescuers reported on their Telegram channel.

Updated at 17:55. According to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, the body of a woman was recovered from the rubble of the high-rise building. The search operation continues.

Updated at 18:05. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that the bodies of a mother and a child had been removed from the rubble.

"Rescuers in Odesa have just unblocked the bodies of a mother and her three-month-old child. The emotions are beyond words. My condolences to the families of the victims. Seven people have already died as a result of the nighttime Russian strike on the high-rise building," he said.

The search operation at the site of the tragedy will continue until the rescuers are sure that no one else is trapped under the rubble.

Russian attack on Odesa

On the night of March 2, Russians attacked Odesa and the region with drones. After one o'clock in the morning, explosions were heard in the city, after which it became known that one of the enemy drones hit a high-rise building.

As of 15:35, five people were reported dead, including a child. At the same time, the State Emergency Service stated that search operations at the site of the tragedy continue, as there may still be people, including children, under the rubble.

According to Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin, the Russian military deliberately hit a residential building in Odesa. There were no military facilities near it.

Shelling of Ukraine on March 2

That night, not only Odesa was under enemy attack. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night of March 2, the Russians fired 17 Shaheds and three Kh-59/Kh-35 missiles at Ukraine.

Air defense forces shot down 14 drones, but there were also hits. In particular, there was a strike in Kharkiv at night, which damaged houses and set two cars on fire.
