Not only black and green: Nutritionist names super-healthy teas
Tea is one of the most consumed beverages worldwide, adored by many. However, it's not just black or green tea that offers benefits to the body.
Nutritionist Svitlana Fus explained which other teas are super beneficial.
Benefits of various teas
Green tea contains flavonoids, which are beneficial for the body. They have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, improve the condition of blood vessels' endothelium, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
The benefits of herbal tea are determined by the natural substances included in its composition, which can be helpful in certain conditions.
- Chamomile tea relaxes and aids in falling asleep.
- Peppermint tea can be beneficial for bloating (flatulence), is used to relieve abdominal cramps, and improves digestion. Additionally, tea with peppermint or lemon balm (commonly known as lemon mint) relaxes and soothes.
- Ginger tea invigorates, relieves stomach spasms, and improves gastrointestinal motility. The ginger root itself is a well-known traditional remedy for colds, reduces swelling, and sometimes even curbs hunger.
- Rosehip tea contains ascorbic acid. It's better to make an infusion from it as hot water destroys vitamin C, which is essential for supporting the immune system.
- Hibiscus tea has antipyretic and antispasmodic effects.
About tea
The ingredients must be natural. The benefits of herbal teas can only be discussed if you know their composition. Moreover, it's important to be aware of the indications and contraindications for using herbal teas.
It's not recommended to drink very hot beverages, as they can be harmful to the mucous membrane, not only of the mouth but also of the stomach. The ideal temperature is no more than 60 degrees Celsius.
Our bodies need to receive an adequate amount of fluids throughout the day, part of which, besides plain water, can include various healthy and tasty teas.
It's best to consume tea without sugar or honey, especially when drinking it between meals. You can also change up different herbal teas throughout the week.
